Property is still a safe haven in volatile asset markets.

Written by Ronald Maako | Jun 2, 2022 10:32:00 AM

In stark contrast to events of recent weeks where the Cryptocurrency market has crashed amid a sentiment of extreme fear and the US Market is scratching to gain steam after the extremely sharp declines, the property market remains a safe haven that investors cannot ignore.

And even though the stock market has rallied somewhat in recent days, analysts are not confident that the gains will last, but rather further entrench a bear market with still lower prices ahead.

A Property Investment Surge

Property on the other hand is enjoying a robust post-pandemic surge. Factors contributing to this activity include the increase in house sales for the relocating to Zoom towns and generally upgrading homes into work-home spaces. First-time buyers enthused by interest rates which reached a 50-year low were also among the sectors that contributed to the upsurge.

FNB housing statistics report that the percentage of homeowners who planned to upgrade rose from 8% in Q2 2020 to a significant increase of 17% in Q1 2021. The year ended with this figure on 15%, a level last seen during Q1 2015.
